This book is a playful take on giving a girl in marriage. Martina is old enough to marry, the ripe old age of 21 days. Martina's grandmother insists she use the "coffee test" on each suitor which proves useful in eliminating hot-tempered gentlemen. She spills coffee on each suitor's shoes to see his reaction. The final suitor spills coffee on Martina's shoes to see her reaction because he too has a Cuban grandmother. She finds a true gentlemen in Perez, the little brown garden mouse.

Agra Deedy, uses the visual element of texture.
The figures appear 3-D on the pages and the layered effect with the
shadows in the background give the images texture that makes me want to touch
the page.
