My Teacher is a Monster by Peter Brown

Brown, P. (2014). My teacher is a monster!: No, I am not. New York, NY: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.

A boy named Bobby has a terrible teacher. She's horrible, she yells, and if you throw paper airplanes, she won't allow you go to recess. She is a monster! Luckily, Bobby can go to his favorite spot in the park on weekends to play. Until one day...he finds Ms. Kirby there! Over the course of the day, Bobby learns that she might not be so bad after all.

Each page is filled with "monstrous" details that will have kids reading the story again and again. Peter Brown takes a universal and timeless theme, and adds his own humorous spin to create an entertaining picture book.

Assignment #1

Visual Element - Line

My Teacher Is a Monster by Peter Brown has a nice use of line to help you relate to the action in story.  The paper airplane appears in the story at the beginning, middle and the end.  You can feel it flying by you with the illustrator's use of line.  The author also uses it to show the teacher’s hat blowing away.
